An Artistic View: Wake County Past, Present, and Future

Raleigh is known as the “Smithsonian of the South,” a reputation that has only improved with recent additions to our arts community. But what does the future hold for the arts in Raleigh and Wake County?

At this event, we’ll explore the economic impact of local arts and cultural organizations that not only create jobs and generate revenue, but also contribute to our quality of life.

  • Explore the economic impact of the arts in Raleigh during opening comments from Mayor Nancy McFarlane and City Councilor Bonner Gaylord.

  • Hear a keynote from Larry Wheeler, director of the North Carolina Museum of Art—one of the leading art museums in the American South.

  • Participate in a lively discussion with prominent figures in the local arts scene—including Lisa Grele Barrie, executive director of the North Carolina Theatre; Lisa Jones, executive director of Carolina Ballet; Sarah Powers, executive director of Visual Art Exchange; Beth Yerxa, executive director of Triangle Art Works; and more—on the dynamic between art staples in the community and the new arts movement.

  • Learn straight from local business leaders, including Catharine Arrowood, partner with Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP and chair of the NC Symphony board, Jeff Corbett, senior vice president of Energy Delivery Carolinas for Progress Energy, and Paula Fryland, regional president of PNC, why they choose to invest their time and resources in the arts. The panel will be moderated by Diane Kuehn, president and CEO of VisionPoint Marketing.

Immediately following the program, continue the conversation with fellow art lovers and business professionals at a wine and cheese reception.
