Education Reform: The Urgency of Now

Sen. Michael Johnston Join local education decision makers to discuss the revolutionary steps North Carolina must take now to improve student performance for our future.

In 2010 Colorado passed sweeping education reform legislation with strong bipartisan support. Championed by Colorado State Sen. Michael Johnston, this legislation has become a national model for meaningful comprehensive education reform. Johnston was named one of the “Top 40 Under 40 Rising Stars in Politics” by Time Magazine, and Forbes Magazine called him one of the country’s “Seven Most Powerful Educators.”

Due in large part to “No Child Left Behind” and “Race to the Top,” education reform is a hot button issue across the nation. As other states are aggressively reforming their education systems, North Carolina has yet to pass comprehensive education reform.

Hear about Colorado reform efforts and learn how North Carolina is responding from:

Michael Johnston
Senator, Colorado General Assembly

June Atkinson
Superintendent, Department of Public Instruction

The event will also feature a panel discussion with Sen. Phil Berger and North Carolina Chamber President Lew Ebert.
