1. Do you support the City of Raleigh’s $275 million parks bond on the ballot this November?
Yes
2. Do you support the $353.2 million Wake Tech bond on the ballot this November?
Yes

Yes
4. Do you support the use of incentives for the attraction and retention of employers?
While I generally support policies that work to attract and retain employers in our county, I do have worries about how incentives for large corporations are prioritized over helping working families at the General Assembly. I do not support the recent move to phase out the corporate tax in North Carolina.
5. Do you support the use of incentives for the attraction and retention of employers? Why or why not?
See above.
6. Do you support Medicaid expansion?
Yes
Do you support Medicaid expansion? Why or why not?
Yes. When it comes to healthcare, lowering out-of-pocket costs is my number one goal. This means getting more families covered and one way to do this is through the expansion of Medicaid, under the Affordable Care Act. Medicaid expansion will also help our economy by supporting rural hospitals and providing jobs to many in those areas. It will provide healthcare in areas of our state where we most need additional coverage and more medical providers. I am proud to have supported legislation in support of expanding Medicaid.
7. How do you intend to collaborate with your partners at the municipal and county level to create a better environment for our region?
As Chair of the Wake County Delegation at the General Assembly, I regularly communicate and coordinate with city and county leaders. I ensure that our municipal and county leaders are kept up to date on pertinent legislation at the General Assembly, and seek their counsel when filing local bills for HD36. I am especially proud of my work to coordinate with local partners when working for a fast and equitable COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Additionally, as a member of the House Local Government committee, I always work to ensure Wake County’s priorities are being emphasized.
8. How will you work to support Wake County’s public education needs, including our public schools, community colleges and public universities?
I am proud to be a strong advocate for our public schools. I first ran for office because of my PTA leadership and have been serving as a substitute teacher at Wake County Public Schools for the past year, which has only further solidified my passion for public education. I have introduced and sponsored numerous pieces of legislation on this topic. I support fully funding the Leandro decision and am proud to be a leader on this issue in the General Assembly. This past Short Session I introduced House Bill 1079, Sound Basic Education for Every Child, which would fully fund the Leandro decision. This past Short Session I also introduced House Bill 1080, Professionalizing the Education Workforce, which would increase salaries for teachers and instructional support personnel who have 16+ years of experience and provide education-based salary supplements to school social workers.
9. How will you help North Carolina to be more competitive regionally, nationally, and internationally?
I am proud to see North Carolina be a national leader in creating a competitive economy. In recent years, we have seen numerous projects involving electric vehicles come to our state, and I am proud to be a leader on bipartisan electric vehicle initiatives in the House. Additionally, it is important to note that many of these large corporations that decided to call Wake County home for their new offices cited our strong public school system as a top reason for deciding to move to NC. We cannot have a strong economy without strong public schools.
Transportation/Transit – Continue to promote and implement an effective transit plan to optimize service delivery and position the state for ongoing growth.
The need for effective and accessible transportation continues to grow as more and more families move to Wake County. I am heartened to see Wake County be a leader in comprehensive transportation efforts. At the General Assembly, I am proud to be a leader on bipartisan clean energy and electric vehicle legislation, including HB296, EV Charging Station/Parking, which passed the House 115-4.
Economic Strength - Create a business-friendly environment to attract, retain and grow business, diversify the economic base, and create job opportunities for all citizens.
North Carolina’s economy should be one of sustainable and balanced growth, where everyone that works hard, and plays by the rules has the same opportunities to be successful. Making sure that North Carolina can compete across the country and around the globe is crucial to our economic success. That’s why I believe we need to invest in a workforce that not only protects the jobs we already have, but promotes growth in new and modern fields of work. Additionally, we need to make sure we are doing more to create an economy that supports and uplifts working families. I have introduced and co-sponsored legislation that would increase the minimum wage, support equal pay for equal work, institute protections for pregnancy-related workplace discrimination, and implement paid parental leave and paid sick days. I support growing our skilled labor to meet the needs of North Carolina’s competitive business climate. That’s why I advocate for the increase in funding for vocational training in our high schools and community colleges. The North Carolina Community College system is a valuable resource for our students and should be given more investment and attention by our government leaders.
Affordable Housing – Develop an effective affordable housing plan through collaboration with the government, the private sector, the community, and individuals.
Our state is growing rapidly, and as a result, our housing market is becoming more competitive and housing prices are on the rise. Families who've lived in their neighborhoods for decades or even generations are being pushed out, and teachers, police officers, and local employees are having great difficulty finding reasonably affordable housing options near their workplaces. We need to pass renter protections to prevent no-cause evictions, provide more down-payment assistance to first time home buyers, and pass a non-discrimination ordinance to provide specific protections for renters and homebuyers who are Section 8 recipients, or who are people of color, low-income, and/or LGBTQ.
Great Government - Promote a vision of a city government that partners with all levels of government to empower, protect and serve its citizens through a culture of respect, collaboration, and innovation
As I have stated previously, I serve as the Co-Chair of the Wake County Delegation at the General Assembly and am proud of the work we do to collaborate with our municipal and county leaders. I send out regular newsletters to my constituents and hold monthly office hours in the district – my door is always open to constituents who have questions, comments, or concerns for me.
Growth and Sustainability - Establish a deliberate and realistic approach to address growth and mobility while preserving our environment and healthy communities.
From the barrier islands to the Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina’s environment is one of the most diverse in the world. I believe that climate change is real and that we must take serious steps to counter its effects. The General Assembly should work for long-term solutions to ensure that jobs which rely on our natural resources can be around for generations to come. For example, logging and timber techniques that promote reforestation should be a priority. This will prevent the further destruction of our forests and wetlands, ensuring their existence for the future. The North Carolina General Assembly should also emphasize the control of surface water run-off; this will prevent the worsening of water quality as well as help block increased erosion. Furthermore, I believe that tax incentives, as well as other benefits, can be used to promote the responsible disposal of waste and other byproducts from North Carolina businesses. Blocking further pollutants from entering into the ecosystem is step one. That’s why I believe that North Carolina must block fracking, prevent offshore drilling, and do everything we can to stop toxic and hazardous waste from seeping into our soil, water, and air. I have supported legislation that will hold polluters financially accountable for clean-up costs and bipartisan initiatives to support greenways across our state. Corporations should pay to clean up their own mess, not taxpayers.
Public Safety - Provide a safe, secure, and healthy community through coordinated, efficient, and effective public safety services.
I am proud to have supported numerous measures to promote a safe, secure and healthy community. I voted yes on numerous bipartisan criminal justice measures, including SB436, Support Law Enforcement Mental Health, HB536, Law Enforcement Duty to Intervene, and SB300, Criminal Justice Reform.
Social and Economic Vitality - Improve economic and social opportunities in vulnerable communities through strategic partnerships.
We must be doing more to protect and uplift our vulnerable communities. I am proud to have sponsored numerous pieces of legislation on this topic, from the Hate Crimes Prevention Act to the Equal Pay Act to the Mental Health Protection Act. I will continue to partner with other elected officials, community advocates, and nonprofit leaders to develop best practices for social and economic vitality.
