On average, flooding causes more than $5 billion in damage nationwide each year. A typical NFIP policy takes 30 days to become effective. It is best to buy flood insurance before it’s needed.
The coverage limit for homeowners is $250,000 for building and $100,000 for contents; businesses can get up to $500,000 in building coverage and $500,000 in contents coverage; renters can purchase up to $100,000 in contents coverage.

ATLANTA – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) reminds businesses, private nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters in South Carolina impacted by the severe storms, high winds, and hail that occurred on April 9, to apply for physical damage disaster loans by the July 29 deadline.
The declaration covers York County and the adjacent counties of Cherokee, Chester, Lancaster and Union in South Carolina and Cleveland, Gaston and Mecklenburg in North Carolina.
Businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets.
Disaster loans up to $500,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $100,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property, including personal vehicles.
